Considered one of the main granaries in the country, the Pool department is also known for its cassava production. But the culture of this commodity has deteriorated in the past two years and local authorities, with the support of development partners, are trying to encourage rural people to return to the fields.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through its emergency fund, has decided to finance the recovery of the cassava sector.
A total of fifteen agricultural groups have been identified in five districts (Kindamba, Vindza, Mindouli, Kimba, Mayama), due to two hectares of parks per group. Cassava is grown here to harvest mainly the stems, not the tubers. The primary function of cassava woodyards is to cultivate the plant and the stems will be used to seed other fields.
