Lemongrass

The lemongrass, verbena of India (or Indian), or lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), is a tropical herbaceous plant of the family Poaceae (grasses), sub-family of Panicoideae, tribe of Andropogoneae, cultivated for its stems and leaves with qualities aromatic (lemon flavor). It contains citronellol.

Common names: lemongrass, lemon herb, verbena from India, Fipagrass in Bandjoun (Cameroon).

Do not confuse with lemon balm or simply lemongrass (Melissa officinalis L.), a perennial plant in the Lamiaceae family.
